Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming Officially Assumes Office as the Ninth Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK
On January 8, 2025, Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming assumed office as the ninth Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). On his first day, Professor Lo issued an open letter to all members of the CUHK community, expressing his vision for the future development of the University.
Dear members of the CUHK community,
It is with immense honour that I address you on the very first day of my term as the Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
It is my enormous privilege to lead this esteemed institution, one that has been known for its steadfast commitment to the unique mission of “combining tradition with modernity and bringing together China and the West” since its establishment in 1963. To me, CUHK is a lot more than a dynamic and continuously evolving university characterised by a stunning campus which is the largest and greenest in Hong Kong, and its position as a beacon of academic excellence, world-leading research and cutting-edge innovation. It is the organisation I have been proudly serving for the past 27 years – a place I can call home, where all members of the vibrant CUHK community converge for a common purpose of making a meaningful impact on society.
May I take this opportunity to convey my sincere gratitude for the trust and hope you have kindly invested in me as I embark on this exciting journey alongside all of you. I believe our dedication and passion will enable us to realise our shared vision and shape a better tomorrow together.
To all students, I hope you will seize the abundant opportunities at CUHK to pursue whole-person development and equip yourselves as servant leaders with a global outlook and multicultural awareness, who take great pride in our traditional values and rich heritage and adopt an innovative mindset to develop actionable solutions to world challenges.
To all colleagues across Colleges, Faculties, departments and units at CUHK, I am eager to work hand in hand with you to foster a diverse, inclusive and nurturing campus environment where everyone can make great contributions to pave a brighter path for the University.
To all alumni from different generations, your achievements are spanning all sectors and effecting positive changes across the globe. We count on you to stay connected, uphold the spirit of excellence, innovation and service in everything you do, and enrich the legacy of your alma mater.
To all the devoted partners and friends of CUHK in Hong Kong, the mainland, and around the world, thank you very much for your consistent support, which has enabled us to generate impact that transcends boundaries. I look forward to building closer ties with you so that the fruits of our endeavours can be shared beyond campus borders to leave an indelible mark on the world.
As the Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, I shall commit myself to open communication to leverage the collective wisdom of our community to lead this exceptional institution towards a future where we will continue to play an integral part in creating a more sustainable and equitable world.
As the new year has just begun, let me extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you. May your year be filled with joy and fulfillment. I cannot wait to write a new chapter of the splendid CUHK story with all of you.
